What is a Private Cloud?
A private cloud is designed to offer the same features and benefits as public cloud systems but removes a number of objections to the cloud computing model such as; control over enterprise and customer data, worries about security and issues connected to regulatory compliance. Because a private cloud setup is implemented safely within the corporate firewall, it remains under the control of the IT department, meaning added levels of security over a public cloud solution.
Benefits of private cloud.
Pooled Resources. In a private cloud, your key hardware resources such as; computing, storage, and networking are pooled and abstracted into units that enable you to dynamically provision and scale applications and resources.
Applications as a service. A private cloud enables a business to deliver applications and resources as services. Users can request, configure, and manage IT services through an interactive portal that allows for automated provisioning.
Flexible. Resources can quickly be expanded or contracted through automation or workflow, so IT services can be scaled up or down almost instantly to meet business requirements.
As with any cloud service, most of the big technology firms are very active including; VMware, Citrix, Microsoft. There are also a host of other players providing various levels of services. Due to the number of services available, it’s important to get the right solution. At OACTEL, we have implemented private cloud solutions for a number of our clients, and have used a number of different technologies.
